Electrical Craft Team Member (DLRS)

Closing Date: Tuesday 8th July 2025

Interviews will be conducted w/c 14th July 2025

We’re recruiting an electrically biased technician to help maintain and repair Tata Steel’s on-site locomotive fleet in Port Talbot – a critical part of keeping steel moving through the site safely and efficiently.

Based in our upgraded Diesel Loco Repair Shop, you’ll work on a fleet of 19 locomotives ranging from diesel-electric models to the latest hybrid designs. Your responsibilities will include inspecting and maintaining electrical systems, diagnosing faults, and carrying out both routine and reactive repairs. This may involve work on AC/DC motors, 3-phase systems, relays, contactors, PLCs, CAN BUS and electrical control panels.

You’ll need to be confident interpreting electrical diagrams, using diagnostic tools and working safely under pressure. There will also be times where you’ll support mechanical colleagues or collaborate on integrated system repairs, so a flexible and team-oriented mindset is important.

To be successful in this role, you’ll hold a City & Guilds Level 3 in an electrical discipline, typically gained via a time-served apprenticeship. You should have hands-on experience with plant or vehicle electrics, and any knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics or hybrid systems would be an advantage.

You’ll need to be IT literate, safety-conscious and capable of working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with SAP would be a bonus.
