Internship – GPU Driver Engineer – United Kingdom

Job Description:

The Apple Silicon GPU Driver team needs engineers to design, develop, and support the Metal GPU drivers that power high-performance 3D rendering engines, neural networks, computational photography algorithms.

We are looking for a software engineer intern to work with our User Mode driver engineers in London. During the internship you will learn and apply knowledge of GPU architecture and graphics drivers to build novel solutions to enhance the graphics driver in use across all Apple platforms. You may also develop graphics applications with the Metal API and Metal Shading Language to exercise the driver and GPU, building on graphics debugging tools to accelerate development.

Qualifications:

Pursuing a Technical undergraduate or graduate degree

Understanding of the graphics pipeline

GPU programming with Metal, DirectX, Vulkan, CUDA, Direct Compute, OpenGL, or OpenCL

Programming knowledge of C/C++

Preferred Qualifications

Strong problem solving and debugging skills

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Knowledge of real-time graphics algorithms and machine learning

Job Description:

In this role you will partner with multi-functional teams such as electrical, optical, embedded firmware, and software algorithm engineers to realize mechanical designs that integrate new technologies into systems for early-stage data collection. You will assist in setting technical requirements, defining specifications, design detailing, prototyping, fabrication, and owning the mechanical build process of low volume system manufacturing

Job Responsibilities:

– Developing mechanical design of systems using 3D CAD, ensuring robustness and manufacturability.

– Creating and evaluate proof-of-concepts, working with machine shops and vendors for fabrication

– Plan and perform design validation, including thermal analysis and reliability testing.

– Supporting assembly and integration processes, for internal engineering build or directing external contract manufacturers, and performing rapid failure analysis to to mitigate risks and maintain project timelines.

– Collaborate multi-functionally to define and refine design, testing, and validation requirements, aligning with user specifications and operational needs.

– Up to 20% domestic and international travel.

Qualifications:

BS in mechanical engineering with at least 1+ year of relevant internship or industry experience in relevant field.

Proficiency in 3D CAD and creating 2D manufacturing drawings.

Strong mechanical engineering including analytical skills, material selection, and manufacturing processes based on engineering requirements.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and people skills; ability to interact with management, team members and external vendors.

Preferred Qualifications

MS in mechanical engineering.

Fluent in Siemens NX and familiarity with flexible and rigid printed circuit boards design, fabrication and assembly.

The Apple Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) is accountable for driving the development of key mechanical manufacturing processes across Apple’s worldwide supply base. In this highly visible,

hands-on role as the expert technical member of the Manufacturing Design Team you will have direct frequent communication and collaboration with Apple Industrial Design, Product Design, Manufacturing Design partners and worldwide suppliers.

Qualifications:

We’re looking for talents who can meet either one of below requirements:

Demonstrate hands-on mechanical ability

Strong written and verbal interpersonal skills in English

Computer aided design (CAD) skills: 3D CAD experience required (Abaqus, Ansys, NX preferred)
