Field Engineer- Structural Steel
Reporting to the Lead Civil Field Engineer, the Structural Engineer will provide structural engineering and design support to craft and Superintendents in accordance with relevant design criteria, codes, and standards.
Job Description:
Review of structural drawing production including structural steelworks, steel connects steel shop drawings, architectural details, reinforced concrete foundations and slabs, and concrete details.
Design of equipment supports (concrete and steel) and verifying strengths of existing structures.
Ensure the timely preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals, including problem analysis and review of design.
Perform calculations and basic preliminary analyses.
Check manufacturer’s drawings and data for compliance with specifications.
Prepare specifications and design calculations.
Prepare or review engineering studies and reports.
Assist in developing or review of material quantity estimates.
Assist in the detailed development of established design concepts for process systems, structures and equipment.
Use engineering computer-aided design/computer-aided engineering (CAD and or CAE) tools as directed.
Compile, verify and correlate data relating to engineering problems.
Provide input to and/or maintains records for equipment and components.
Assist in preparation of material requisitions, specifications and other related procurement documents.
Coordinate assigned work with other technical personnel as directed.
Use of Smart Plant Review to assist with design reviews of industrial structures.
Participate in team meetings and reviews and maintain interaction with engineers and other designers in all disciplines.
Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering within the relevant discipline from an accredited university as well as a minimum of 1-year experience or in lieu of a degree 7 years of experience.
Some background in steel and concrete design.
Previous experience working in a multidiscipline team ideally on a major Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management project.
Intermediate skills in 3D structural analysis and design software e.g. STAAD or SPACE GASS.
Understanding of 3D modeling and 2D drafting software.
Intermediate design experience in equipment supports (concrete and steel).
Intermediate design experience in retrofitting/modifying existing structures (concrete and steel).
Basic understanding of engineering work planning, scheduling, and cost estimating / basic knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to engineering designs.
Basic knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to design.
Basic knowledge of related construction practices and economics involved.
