We are looking for Higher Manufacturing apprentices to join our 2021 apprenticeship scheme at our Llanwern site.
Job Description:
During the 2 year apprenticeship you will spend a significant amount of time learning about the business. You will develop key skills and knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental practices, our products, our customers and the local IT systems. In addition to this you will learn about the Manufacturing Operations- specifically process operations, material handling, warehousing, quality, and continuous improvement techniques whilst also becoming familiar with the plant and equipment on site. The duties apprentices undertake will be geared around learning the required skills and knowledge to become a fully competent member of the team.
Typically this role involves:
Operating processing machinery and material handling equipment in a safe and productive manner and to good standards of workmanship in order to deliver the required levels of customer service.
Recognising relevant product ranges to facilitate prompt and accurate material selection and processing
Understanding and implementing basic maintenance activities to facilitate optimum productivity.
Understanding and deploying continuous improvement and problem solving techniques to optimise machine availability.
Understanding, deploying and seeking to recommend improvements to production control procedures to support team performance objectives.
Handling all material including checking stock records, labelling and storing according to commercial requirements
Play an active role in providing reports and updates to the management team.
Imparting knowledge of processes and activities to others in a structured and formal manner to support the team-s operational and development objectives
Ensuring that their own and team operations are conducted in manner which fully complies with CMSE’s health and safety, quality, environmental and corporate policies.
Contributing to team level annual operational and financial budgets.
Ensuring the organisation of stocks, and appropriate records, to maintain optimum productivity and safety.
Playing a full role within the team and the context of the site to facilitate optimal performance.
The Manufacturing Apprentices will gain exposure to different areas of the Distribution business and will rotate around the different manufacturing processes. They will also develop an understanding of the commercial aspects of processing and manufacturing.
During your 2 year apprenticeship you will also study for further qualifications to Level 4.
The Candidate
Candidates who have, or are expected to achieve, 5 GCSE or equivalent (including English, Maths and Science) at Grades A* – C or level 4-9
And Who have or are expected to achieve 2 A Levels at grade C or above are eligible to apply. Maths would be advantageous.
Good IT skills including competency using Excel would be an advantage.
