The COVID-19 outbreak has affected economies across the globe. Some IT companies have halted appraisals and salary hikes. At the same time, there are companies that are still hiring. Over 200,000 new job openings have been spotted on hiring portals.
A report by ET highlights 200,000 new job postings published in the last four weeks. One in four of these job vacancies was posted in the last week. The nation-wide lockdown has forced India to work from home. There is a growing fear among employees regarding the future of their employment. The job postings suggest that there is a growing demand for jobs despite the lockdown.
Most of the job listings are by e-commerce and ed-tech platforms. Companies including Amazon, Flipkart, Grofers, and Byju’s are hiring across verticals including backend development and operations role. Nine out of ten job listings are for full time positions while rest are for part time or contractual. Over 80,000 job postings are for entry level roles.
Nearly 79% of the total job openings are in IT and ITeS domains. Most of the roles are of software engineers, full-stack developers, sales and marketing professionals. Since most of the country is working from home, new-age startups and digital platforms are set to gain during the lockdown.
Companies in e-commerce and BFSI domain account for 15% of the new job postings. BigBasket and Grofers are hiring for 15,000 positions. The delivery of essential goods and services has helped these companies in reporting positive hiring trend.
IT companies that offer support functions to essential services can efficiently operate during the lockdown as well. Most of these companies have been effectively working from home. These companies are likely to hire new employees in future.
